10 Things That
Are Making Me A
Little Crazy Today
There really is no rhyme or reason to this list and if I offend anyone, that's not my intention.
These are things that are just driving me a little bonkers on a week that I am feeling even
more outspoken.

1 - Paula Deen is not your Mama!
And you are not seven years old. I don't know if reporters and bloggers around the country
missed that memo recently. When the news came out that she is diabetic (and a smoker
as many like to throw in) and is endorsing a diabetes medication, people jumped all over
her. She has always said, "Practice moderation, y'all." She is not cooking at your house 21
meals a week and insisting you eat the dishes she makes on TV. It's television. She is
going to make indulgent food, because honestly, it is SO good. No one is going to watch
her make salads. And since when is a celebrity's health status automatically public
business? Personally, our family loves her bbq cheeseburger meatloaf but I only make it
about twice a year. Practice common sense. Stop expecting celebrities to disclose
everything. Stop raking them over the coals for being human. And good for her for offering
lighter versions of her meals now and bringing some attention to diabetes.

2 - Miss Owitzfein
You know that mom whose kid dumps sand all over your child at the playground at age 3
or screams nonstop in a restaurant. Then the same child hits at 6 and sneaks out at 13.
The parents who say, "Oh, it's fine! It's just that age" or "Oh, it's fine! He's just expressing
himself!" No, Miss Owitzfein, it's not okay. If they are little-little, meet their needs or remove
them from the situation. If they are older, teach them to respect others and appropriate

ways
to express their feelings. If they are teens, it is NOT fine for them to bully others or
break the law or just plain act like a damn fool. It's not that Little Owitzfein acts out that
bothers me, it's that Miss Owitzfein does nothing about it!

3 - Local Politics
I am not going to elaborate but if you are following what's going on with the Clerk of Court
for Lexington County situation, you probably agree with me that it's ridiculous. And yes, I
support Suzanne Moore and as a mom whose dealt with them for many years, the Clerk of
Court's office makes me a little crazy.
People who don't "care" about local politics, you
should. It's your town, county and state. And I will refrain from ranting about national
politics or political ads.

4 - I'm in love with Twitter.
There I said it. Twice a day or so, I love checking my Twitter feed
. I follow some random
people. But some of the quotes and short inspirational things people post make me
smile. Who knew that Donnie Wahlberg would be one of my favorites for "you can do it"
tweets?

5 - Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen is ruining my sleep.
Hi, my name is Kati and I may possibly be addicted to Bravo. I swear every month I am not
going to watch any of the Housewives series, but I get sucked in. Bethenny Frankel is one
of my all time favorite people. Tabatha Takes Over requires my attention each week. Love
me some Roble & Co and It's a Brad Brad World
is awesome. Watch What Happens Live
is so much fun! The problem is that it expanded to five nights a week, because it is so fun.
Yay for Andy and Bravo. Not so good for me getting any sleep. If TWC would just put more
of this on demand I'd be okay.

6 -
"What are you going to do today?"
Seriously? My answer is usually somewhere between:
"Run a marathon, cure a disease and teach the toddler a foreign language." and
"Entertain the toddler, make sure the big kids don't burn down the house and nap because
Andy kept me up late last night. If the kids all end the day with four limbs, it's a win, right?"
My husband works nights and doesn't see much of us during the week. I know he just
wants to know what's going on so he doesn't feel out of touch, but still...
He knows: three times a week, I go to Stroller Strides. Three - four times a week, I go to the
grocery story. (We go through a gallon of milk a day and our fridge is only so big.) The rest
of the time, I'm parenting, working and maintaining everyone's sanity. I think as a stay/work
at home mom, I'm wired for that question to bug me even though it shouldn't and in a way,
doesn't it. I just have that knee jerk glare reaction.

7 - Technology
Again, seriously? Lexington One and the ipads? My oldest doesn't go to Lexington One,
but I feel for those involved. I get that laptops would be a good idea. But ipads? I heard last
week that LHS has the lowest GPA ever right now. Wonder how the average Angry Birds
high score is ranked. So many classrooms as a whole and teachers could really use new
technology - special ed, language, etc. But no, you're going to give an ipad to every student.
I think anyone with a teenager could've told you that was a bad idea. I understand the value
of properly used technology in school and at home. However, every kid does not need a
cell phone, ipod and laptop from birth. You can Google water cycles, but do kids
remember how to go outside and check out rain or morning dew? My kids have a hard
time with spelling, but sometimes don't even know it's wrong. Thanks, spell check and
texting.

8 - Bus stops
My kids ride the great yellow limo, but the bus stop is right across the street from our
house. I've noticed a nasty trend of kids acting like they have no sense at the bus stop. And
why should they? They are totally unsupervised and trying to show how cool they are. My
son is in middle school and his bus stop is full of middle school boys. I know they wouldn't
act like that in front of their Mama. And I know that most kids who ride the bus have working
parents who can't be there, but maybe all parents should make random appearances. Or
randomly spy. Or bus stops shouldn't be so far apart with so many kids at each one. If I
remember correctly, kindergartens get picked up at their house so they are supervised.
Maybe all kids need that. Or maybe more people in the neighborhood need to speak up to
the school and to these kids parents. Let me know they see them and that it's not okay in
their neighborhood and community.

9 - My kids
They make me crazy on a daily basis, but all in all, it's a good thing. They keep me on my
toes! My littlest is two. I often find myself telling the big ones, "I remember when you did
this or liked that." Then I realize that it feels like yesterday when they were that size and
how fast that time goes. It makes me crazy that I can't make it go slower.

10 - My craziness makes me crazy.
But there isn't much I can do about that except deal with it and use it for good. And to
complete my list of 10, because ending at 9 would make me crazy :)

So that's my craziness for now. What makes you crazy or what are you obsessed with?
